Best Places For Bird Watching, Hiking In Auburn, AL

Kreher Nature Preserve and the Arboretum

This should be the first stop on your birdwatching adventure. The Kreher Nature Preserve and the Arboretum sit on 120 acres of forest land donated to Auburn University’s College of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences. The land is fully open to the public. It’s a valuable resource for Auburn students and visitors that want to learn more about the native wildlife and walk through acres of preserved nature.

Chewacla State Park

Chewacla State Park covers almost 700 acres of wilderness, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding birds. In addition to that, there is a 26-acre lake, swimming area, playgrounds, hiking trails, picnic areas with tables, grills, and shelters. So while you may come to Chewacla State Park for bird watching and hiking, there is more to do here.

Lake Wilmore Park

This one is not far from Chewacla State Park, so you should be able to stop at both of these locations in one afternoon. There are some beautiful creeks and waterfalls, and Lake Wilmore is perfect to see birds coming and going.
