Basketball and Hoop

Thanksgiving weekend is officially in the rearview mirror, which could only mean one thing: the SEC men’s basketball schedule is just around the corner. Our minds have been fixated on Auburn hoops ever since that heart-wrenching, one-point loss to eventual national champion Virginia in Minneapolis last April. The first SEC game at Auburn Arena is in early January against the always pesky Vanderbilt Commodores, but there are still four non-conference home games between now and then. Auburn University Tigers basketball has been the talk of the town for some time now, and there’s no better time to hop onto the bandwagon than right now! And it’s worth noting that The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center is only a scenic, 14-minute walk from Auburn Arena.

Season Preview

The upcoming SEC schedule is bound to be a gauntlet yet again this season as traditional powerhouses Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida all seem poised for a deep run in the National Tournament with Arkansas slotting in as a sleeper. Auburn hoops endured some close calls earlier this year against lesser foes, such as South Alabama, Georgia Southern, and Davidson, but there’s no such thing as a bad win in college basketball. With the loss of its three top scorers from last season’s Final Four team, no one expected the Tigers to leap out of the cage in a full sprint. But the team is finally starting to gel.

Auburn Hoops: New Faces, Similar Results

As the AU men’s basketball team surges ahead into its conference schedule, Tiger fans are starting to get a feel for Bruce Pearl’s dynamic, fresh-faced team. After just seven games, it has become abundantly clear that SEC opponents are going to have to keep several sets of eyes on senior guard Samir Doughty, who’s piling up points as of late. Freshman forward Isaac Okoro has been a welcomed addition while senior center Austin Wiley has evolved into an absolute beast on the boards. But, of course, don’t overlook the assist machine, senior guard J’Von McCormick. If the Tigers keep winning in December, look for them to crack the top 10 nationally before conference play begins.

The Fan Experience at Auburn Arena

Auburn Arena is the perfect setting for a highly-skilled AU basketball contest. The stadium itself holds over 9,000 students, alumni, and casual basketball fans. Typically, the home fans create an unprompted sea of navy blue and burnt orange around the glossy hardwood court. Everything from the raucous team spirit to the comfortable seats has helped “The Jungle” become one of the most popular road trips in SEC country. No seat is more than 43 feet away from the court, which helps foster an up-close-and-personal fan experience. And, as we stated earlier, the arena is just over half of a mile from The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. Nothing beats a leisurely stroll through campus after a hard-earned SEC victory against a hated rival, especially late in the season! Don’t forget that there’s also ample parking near the arena in various locations.
